Against the backdrop clashes between Fulani herdsmen and residents of neighboring states leading to loss of lives and property, a security meeting was held in Abuja on Monday, between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),Senator Bala Mohammed and Fulani Chiefs (Ardos) from the six Area Councils of the FCT.
Also in attendance at the meeting were The FCT Permanent Secretary, Engr. John Chukwu, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, Commandant, Brigade of Guards, the FCT Police Commissioner, Director of FCT Department of State Security, Commandant of the National Civil Defence Corps as well as the Special Adviser to the FCT Minister on Security .
Senator Mohammed while emphasizing that the FCT Administration would continue to protect all the residents announced the setting up of a high-powered Task Force on crime and cattle rustling control to be chaired by the FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu.
The Task Force comprises of the Director of the Directorate of State Security Services, Commandant, FCT NSCDC; representative of Commandant, Brigade of Guards; Special Adviser Security to the FCT Minister, Abuja Municipal Council Chairman, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Secretary of the FCT Area Council Secretariat, Special Assistant, Political to the Minister and sixArdos representing the six Area Councils.
The Minister thereafter directed the Area Council Chairmen to consider putting some important Ardos in their jurisdictions on monthly salaries in order to give them a sense of belonging.
